心臓つくる遺伝子を特定 京大助手らホヤの研究で [Yahoo!]
脊索動物の中で最も原始的なホヤでは、メスピー遺伝子が１種類しかないことに着目。ホヤの受精卵の段階からメスピー遺伝子の働きを阻害した。マウスでは確認することのできなかったメスピー遺伝子の機能が心臓形成に関わっているということを同定した報告です。 この報告によって、先天的に心臓に疾患を持っている遺伝性の疾患に関して何らかの手だてができる可能性が出てきたと云えそうです。
その結果、心臓の前駆細胞で心臓をつくるために働くはずの別の遺伝子が活動せず、成体になっても心臓が形成されないまま死んだため、メスピー遺伝子が心臓の形成に基本的な役割を果たすことが確認できた。
